Maddy Martins, PsyD
Dr. Maddy Martins is a licensed clinical and sport psychologist with specialized training and experience supporting athletes through life stressors, mental health challenges, and performance enhancement. She earned her B.S. in Kinesiology – Exercise Science from Fresno State University, where she also served as captain of the Division I Women’s Equestrian team. She went on to complete a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Long Beach State, followed by a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University in Glendale.
For her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Martins developed a mental skills training program designed to help athletic trainers support injured athletes. During her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Arizona State University, she also served as an athletic liaison counselor.
Dr. Martins continued her specialized training with a postdoctoral fellowship in Sport Psychology at the University of Southern California (USC), where she was later hired as faculty upon licensure. Over five years at USC, she provided individual therapy for student-athletes across all 21 varsity sports and served as lead sport psychologist. In this role, she offered coach consultation, team support, and education on performance and culture enhancement. She also collaborated closely with athletic medicine and support staff to promote student-athlete well-being.
In 2023, Dr. Martins launched her private practice, where she works with adolescent and adult clients, as well as youth soccer and equestrian programs. She also volunteers with USA Gymnastics Trampoline & Tumbling.
Her clinical interests include performance enhancement, identity development, life transitions, interpersonal relationships, injury recovery, and mood and anxiety disorders. A lifelong equestrian, Dr. Martins continues to enjoy riding, as well as spending time outdoors hiking, running, and going to the beach.
