Frequently Asked Questions
A few clear answers to help you understand how Podium works, who we support, and what the first step looks like.
Do I need to be an athlete to work with Podium?
Not at all. While many clients are athletes, we also work with performing artists, executives, students, and other high-achieving professionals navigating pressure, transition, and performance demands in any field.
What is performance psychology?
Performance psychology applies mental-skills training, such as focus, confidence, and emotional regulation, to help people perform consistently and sustainably under pressure, whether in sport, performing arts, or high-stakes professional work.
What is the difference between psychotherapy and performance psychology?
Psychotherapy focuses on mental health, emotional wellbeing, life stressors, identity, relationships, and personal challenges. Performance psychology focuses on the mental skills and psychological strategies that support execution, confidence, and consistency. Some clients may benefit from a blend of both.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. Virtual sessions are available for clients located in states where Dr. Martins is licensed (CA, NV, and MD), in addition to in-person sessions.
How do I know which service is right for me?
That's exactly what the initial consultation is for. We will talk through what you are navigating and recommend whether psychotherapy, performance work, consultation, or a blend of approaches makes the most sense.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We are currently paneled with Aetna, Blue Cross, select Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, and Carelon plans.
If your insurance is not listed, don't worry. There are still ways to get insurance to cover sessions. Please schedule a consultation to discuss options.
