Meet Dr. Martins

Maddy Martins, PsyD is a licensed clinical and sport psychologist specializing in work with athletes, performers, and high-achieving professionals. Her focus is blending performance enhancement and mental health to assist her clients in performing optimally while finding harmony between life and work.
Dr. Martins received her B.S. at Fresno State University where she was team captain for the Division I Women’s Equestrian Team. She obtained her Masters in Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology at Long Beach State before earning her doctorate in clinical psychology at Midwestern University, Glendale. She completed her APA pre-doctoral internship at Arizona State University, where she was a member of the athletics liaison team and went on to earn the Clinical and Sport Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship with the prestigious University of Southern California Sport Psychology Team.
Dr. Martins went on to work as full-time faculty at USC as a Clinical and Sport Psychologist for four years where she worked with individuals from all 23 Division I sports and acted as lead team sport psychologist with Men’s Baseball, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Rowing, and Men’s Volleyball where she facilitated team culture and performance sessions, and consulted with coaching staff for optimal team and staff functioning. Over the course of her career at USC, she worked collaboratively with sports medicine, dietitians, strength and conditioning, and academics to manage clinical care and performance of student-athletes. Additionally, she co-led the athletics interdisciplinary eating disorder treatment team and was the sport psychology training coordinator.
Outside of USC, Dr. Martins is contracted with USA Gymnastics to be the mental health and performance psychologist for the Acrobatics National Team, and is a contracted clinical and sport psychologist to Long Beach State Athletics. Additionally, she facilitates quarterly athlete and parent/caretaker presentations with Football for Her, and is a board member with Athlete Meal Plan, a non-profit organization that offers nutritional education and meals to underserved communities and athletes with food insecurities. Dr. Martins is a member of the Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA) and actively engages with those in the organization to consult and for continued learning.
Clinically, Dr. Martins has diverse clinical focuses and interests, including interpersonal relationships, life transitions, identity concerns, performance enhancement with specific passion for working with those experiencing mental blocks and the “Yipps,” body image concerns, and mood and anxiety disorders. Both her masters thesis and doctoral dissertation focused on working with individuals recovering from injury and providing education to the medican team to assist in preparing for return-to-sport; thus, the opportunity to support individuals through their rehabilitation journey is always a true honor.
Dr. Martins is a native to Southern California, and in her free time she enjoys being outside, at the barn, spending time with her family, and trying new recipes.
